Independent Review of the Medical Questions
An Independent Medical Examination, commonly referred to as an IME, is performed by a physician who is not involved in the examinee’s ongoing care. The evaluating physician may review prior medical records, diagnostic imaging, operative reports, therapy documentation and other relevant information before performing a focused history and physical examination.
The purpose is to help address specific questions concerning diagnosis, causation, treatment, work status, maximum medical improvement, permanent impairment or the need for additional care.
