Ankle Arthritis

The ankle joint is one of the larger weight bearing joints of the body.  Due to very tight bony support, the joint is not as commonly diagnosed with arthritis as the knee or hip.  The ankle functions to move the foot up and down and compromises the "up and down" motion moreso than the "side to side" motion of the foot.  Most commonly, ankle arthritis occurs after trauma to the foot, for example, an ankle dislocation.  This can lead to accelerated arthritis and lead to restrictive motion
