Biography

About Nathan Jové, M.D.

Nathan Jové, M.D. is a third-generation Atlanta orthopedic surgeon. He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, Dr. Julio Jové, and his father, Dr. Maurice Jové, continuing a family tradition of orthopedic care in Atlanta. Dr. Jové earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Emory University.

He received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and completed orthopedic surgery residency at the Detroit Medical Center. A significant portion of his training took place at Detroit Receiving Hospital, the largest trauma center in Detroit. He also trained with physicians involved in the care of athletes from the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings.

Today, Dr. Jové maintains a high-volume orthopedic surgical practice focused on total hip replacement, total knee replacement, anatomic and reverse shoulder replacement, complex revision hip and knee replacement, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, sports medicine, knee arthroscopy, cartilage repair and expedited care for broken bones, fractures and tendon tears. Experience across joint replacement, arthroscopy, fracture fixation and complex reconstruction gives him multiple ways to evaluate and solve difficult orthopedic problems rather than relying on one operation or one method of treatment.

A major focus of Dr. Jové’s practice is outpatient joint replacement at Atlanta Outpatient Surgery Center. As one of the highest-volume total joint surgeons at the center, he has helped build an efficient outpatient surgery model centered on patient safety, surgical precision, cost awareness and a smoother overall experience. When appropriate, he uses bone-preserving hip stems, knee components selected to avoid metal-sensitivity concerns, advanced planning tools, robotics and AI-assisted technology to individualize care.

For many appropriate patients, outpatient hip, knee or shoulder replacement can provide a more convenient and cost-conscious alternative to a traditional hospital stay. Dr. Jové’s goal is to deliver hospital-level surgical expertise in a streamlined outpatient setting while maintaining careful patient selection, high-quality fixation, thoughtful implant selection and close attention to recovery.

In 2018, Dr. Jové performed the first outpatient total joint replacements at Emory Decatur Hospital and helped establish the hospital’s outpatient joint replacement program. That experience helped shape his continued focus on expanding safe, efficient outpatient orthopedic surgery for appropriate patients throughout Atlanta, Decatur, Snellville and Loganville.

In 2022, Dr. Jové became the youngest Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Emory Decatur Hospital. He also serves on the hospital’s Health and Conduct Committee and Medical Executive Committee and serves on the Medical Executive Committee at Atlanta Outpatient Surgery Center. He maintains one of the busiest orthopedic surgical practices at both facilities.

Dr. Jové performs surgery at Atlanta Outpatient Surgery Center, Emory Decatur Hospital, Piedmont Eastside Medical Center, Northside Hospital at Meridian Mark and Northside Hospital Snellville Outpatient Surgery Center. These settings allow him to match the surgical location to the procedure, the patient’s medical needs and whether outpatient or hospital-based care is most appropriate.

In addition to elective joint replacement and sports medicine surgery, Dr. Jové has helped develop improved hip-fracture care pathways at Emory Decatur Hospital, with a focus on faster treatment, shorter hospital stays, reduced complications and better coordination of care for older adults with hip fractures.

Dr. Jové has presented orthopedic research nationally, including an oral presentation at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting. He was selected as Chief Administrative Resident during his final year of orthopedic surgery residency.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Jové is Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of OnliOrthopedics, a surgeon-built orthopedic electronic medical record platform. He helped design the system around the realities of high-volume orthopedic care, with an emphasis on faster documentation, efficient clinical workflows and technology that supports rather than interrupts the physician-patient relationship.

High-Volume Surgical Experience

High-Volume Orthopedic Surgery Across Joint Replacement, Sports Medicine and Fracture Care

Dr. Jové maintains a high-volume practice in hip, knee and shoulder replacement, complex revision surgery, sports medicine, shoulder and knee arthroscopy, cartilage restoration, and expedited care for broken bones, fractures and tendon tears. Experience across these areas strengthens decision-making and provides multiple ways to address difficult anatomy, failed treatment, cartilage loss, instability and bone loss.

Joint Replacement & Revision

High-Volume Hip, Knee and Shoulder Replacement

Total hip, total knee, anatomic shoulder and reverse shoulder replacement are among Dr. Jové’s highest-volume procedures. For appropriate younger or active patients, he uses bone-preserving hip stems selected around anatomy and bone quality. In knee replacement, he routinely uses components chosen to eliminate metal-sensitivity concerns from the outset rather than waiting for a known allergy. He also performs complex revision hip and knee surgery for loosening, instability, infection, bone loss, failed implants and fractures around replacements. Many primary joint replacements are completed through dedicated outpatient pathways when medically appropriate.

Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy

Sports Medicine, Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopy

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and knee cartilage restoration are major high-volume areas of Dr. Jové’s sports medicine practice. He also treats meniscus tears, torn ligaments, labral and SLAP tears, shoulder instability, knee sprains and other activity-related injuries. For arthroscopic repairs, he uses nonmetal bioresorbable or biocomposite anchors selected for strong fixation today while protecting future imaging and revision options. Treatment is planned with the possible long-term consequences of the injury in mind, so today’s repair does not make later treatment unnecessarily difficult.

Expedited Injury Care

Expedited Care for Broken Bones, Fractures and Tendon Tears

Dr. Jové provides expedited evaluation after an emergency-room or urgent-care visit for broken bones, diagnosed fractures and acute tendon tears. Common injuries include broken ankles, broken wrists and distal radius fractures, hip fractures, displaced breaks, fractures around the knee or shoulder, and fractures around joint replacements. He also treats quadriceps tendon tears, patellar tendon tears and Achilles tendon ruptures. Prompt imaging review helps determine whether casting, bracing, fracture fixation, tendon repair, complex reconstruction or revision-level treatment is needed.

Treatment Choices with the Future in Mind

Preserving Bone, Avoiding Preventable Problems and Protecting Future Options

Dr. Jové selects implants and fixation methods based not only on the operation being performed today, but also on the possible long-term consequences of the injury, the patient’s age and activity level, and what may be required years later.

Hip Replacement

Bone-Preserving Hip Stems

When anatomy and bone quality permit, bone-preserving hip stems can limit unnecessary bone removal. This is particularly valuable for younger and more active patients who may place greater lifetime demands on a hip replacement.

Knee Replacement

Metal-Sensitivity-Conscious Components

Dr. Jové routinely uses knee components selected to eliminate metal-sensitivity concerns from the outset. This removes an avoidable variable rather than waiting until a patient develops or discovers a problem after surgery.

Arthroscopic Fixation

Anchors Selected for Today and the Future

Dr. Jové uses nonmetal bioresorbable or biocomposite anchors for arthroscopic repairs. They are selected for strong fixation while minimizing permanent hardware, future imaging interference and obstacles if another procedure is ever required.

Pattern Recognition Built on High Volume

The Advantage of Cross-Specialty Expertise

High-volume surgery builds deep pattern recognition. Repetition allows a surgeon to recognize subtle anatomical differences, anticipate challenges and see beyond standard, one-size-fits-all solutions.

Because Dr. Jové’s experience spans joint replacement, sports medicine, arthroscopy, fracture care and complex reconstruction, he is able to approach each orthopedic problem from multiple perspectives rather than through a single subspecialty lens.

✓
Fracture care strengthens complex reconstruction Experience with displaced fractures, compromised bone, altered anatomy and fixation directly applies to difficult primary and revision joint reconstruction.
✓
Trauma experience sharpens priority and timing Urgent injuries teach the importance of deciding what must be addressed first: stability, soft tissues, blood supply, fixation and surgical timing.
✓
Sports medicine improves balance, stability and function Understanding ligament tension, soft-tissue balance and dynamic joint function strengthens knee and shoulder reconstruction.
✓
Arthroscopy expands the available solutions Direct visualization and minimally invasive techniques can identify and treat cartilage, tendon, labral and meniscal problems that may not be addressed through a single reconstructive approach.
Technical Ability Across Procedures

One Area of Experience Informs the Next

The advantage of working across multiple orthopedic subspecialties is not simply performing more kinds of surgery. It is being able to apply the philosophy, judgment and technical methods from one discipline to a problem in another.

A complex knee replacement may require fracture-fixation principles to manage bone loss, sports-medicine principles to restore ligament balance and stability, and revision techniques to rebuild the joint. A shoulder problem may require arthroscopic repair, anatomic replacement or reverse replacement depending on the condition of the rotator cuff, cartilage, bone and soft tissues. A fracture around an existing implant may require trauma fixation and revision-joint reconstruction during the same operation.

This integrated technical background allows Dr. Jové to think beyond one implant, one incision or one familiar operation. The goal is to choose the method—or combination of methods—that best restores alignment, stability, strength and long-term function.

✓ Joint replacement expertise in alignment, implant positioning and reconstruction
✓ Sports medicine principles for ligament balance, stability and return to function
✓ Arthroscopic skill for direct visualization and tissue-preserving treatment
✓ Fracture-care experience with fixation, bone loss, altered anatomy and surgical urgency
✓ Revision-level judgment when more than one reconstructive strategy may be required
